We’re often so busy working in our businesses, that we don’t take the time to work ON our businesses.
We recommend you spend a little time every month to sit down with someone who can challenge your answers to these seven tough questions.
1.)  If you replaced your name in your advertising with your competitor’s name, would the ads still be true? If your answer is “yes”, your ads will struggle to persuade prospects to do business with you.
2.)  Why did you get into this business in the first place? Is the reason you were so passionate in the beginning still valid, or have you fallen into the trap of reactive marketing strategies that cause you to look and sound like your competitors?
3.)  Why should a prospect drive past your competitors to do business with you? Is your answer candid? Can you prove it? Can your competitor make the same claim?
4.)  Are your systems, products, processes, and marketing just ‘good enough’ or do you continuously strive for constant improvement?  Regular, objective evaluation of your 5-P’s; Products, Place, Prices, Promotion, and People are essential if you are to stay ahead of your competition.
5.)  Are you too busy working in your business to work on your business? You need to set time aside to plan the growth of your business. Do you set aside time at regular intervals to analyze and plan, and do you invite the input of others? It has been said that “A smart man makes a mistake, learns from it, and never makes that mistake again.  But a wise man finds a smart man and learns from him how to avoid that mistake altogether.”
6.) What is the last amazing thing you did for the top 20% of your customers? Do you know who they are? Do you know why they bought from you? And are you doing things to encourage their referrals and repeat business?
7.) Are you winning or losing the marketing game?  Where do you stand in comparison with your competitors when it comes to TOMA, Top of Mind Awareness? Whatever “Share of Mind” you own in your market is proportionate to the amount of market share you have. Want a bigger share of the pie, increase the performance of your marketing.
